About Us

Shelia D. Duncan Wheeler, MSW, LCSW, LICSW, LCSW-C

Ms. Shelia is first and foremost a follower and lover of Yeshua—Jesus Christ, the Messiah. For over three decades, she has passionately pursued a life that honors Him, walking in surrender, obedience, and holiness. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Supervisor, Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, and a teacher of sound biblical truth, Ms. Shelia combines her professional expertise with unwavering faith to help women experience lasting healing and transformation.

She received her Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Oral Roberts University and her Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Oklahoma. Since 1995, she has served faithfully in a wide range of settings, including outpatient mental health clinics, residential group homes, hospitals, Veterans Administration programs, adult day care centers, church ministries, and Christian counseling practices.

A Calling Beyond Credentials

While Ms. Shelia is trained in evidence-based practices like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, and Marriage and Family Counseling, she has found the most significant breakthroughs occur when the Wonderful Counselor, Jesus Christ, is invited into the session. By depending on the Word of God, the leading of the Holy Spirit, and the manifestation of His gifts, Ms. Shelia has helped women overcome emotional wounds, mental health challenges, and spiritual strongholds to walk in true freedom and wholeness.

She is exceptionally gifted in working with women who have struggled to find relief or lasting change through secular counseling alone. Through Christ-centered, biblically based, Spirit-led counseling, her clients begin to:

  • Heal from unresolved trauma and soul wounds

  • Break free from negative thoughts, limiting beliefs, and lies of the enemy

  • Strengthen their identity as Daughters of the King

  • Rebuild faith, Christ-confidence, and godly purpose

Distinctively Christian Counseling

Ms. Shelia founded Distinctively Christian Counseling in response to the call of the Lord Jesus to provide a safe, sacred space, an Oasis for Christian women to heal emotionally, mentally, and spiritually—not apart from their faith, but because of it. Her mission is to help women navigate life’s transitions with grace, embrace their identity in Christ, and live in a way that brings glory to King Jesus.

All sessions are offered online through a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform—making it convenient, private, and accessible for women across the nation who are seeking therapy from a biblical perspective.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

The Holy Bible Is The Foundation of Truth and The Key To Righteous Living

  • We believe in the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and that He is the only God and Creator; there is no other besides Him. Genesis 1:1-31; Exodus 3:6; Isaiah 43:15; Isaiah 44:6-8, Isaiah 45:5-6,12, 18 & 22; Isaiah 46:9

  • We believe that the Bible is the Word of God; inspired, infallible and unchangeable from Genesis to Revelation. It's our manual and instruction for righteous living. 2 Timothy 3:16; Psalm 19:7

  • We believe there is “One Lord, One faith, One baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all”. Ephesian 4:5-6

  • We believe that “God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, (Jesus) that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life”. John 3:16

  • We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, shed his blood and died on the cross for the remission of our sins. He was resurrected, ascended into heaven to Father God. Luke 1:27-33; John 19:1-36; John 20:1-31

  • We believe that salvation is gained through repentance and the confession of sins; it is given by divine grace (not by works) and is received by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ “is the way, the truth, and the life”; no man cometh unto the Father, but by Him. Jesus Christ is the only mediator between God and men. Luke 24:47; Acts John 14:6; Acts 4:12; Romans 9-10

  • We believe that the heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked and only the Lord can heal the broken heart and create a new heart and a right spirit in a person. Jeremiah 17:9; Psalm 51:10; Luke 4:1

  • We believe in water baptism and the baptism of the Holy Spirit. We believe in the gifts of the Spirit, and the evidence of the fruits of the Spirit. We believe that all of these are available to all believers. We believe that we have received the power to be witnesses of Jesus Christ to the whole world by the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Acts 1:8; Acts 2:4; Mark 16:17; Acts 10:45-48; 1 Corinthians 12:4-10; Ephesians 3:11-12; Galatians 5:22-23

  • We believe in divine healing, through faith in the name of Jesus Christ, and that healing is a benefit of salvation. Psalm 103:2-3; Acts 5:12-16

  • We believe in acknowledging the Lord God daily so that He will direct our paths, guide us with His wisdom and power. Proverbs 3:5-6

  • We believe in presenting our bodies daily as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is our true and proper worship. We do not conform to the patterns of this world but we are being transformed by the renewing of our mind. Roman 12:1-2

"Teach believers with your life: by word, by demeanor, by love, by faith, by integrity. Stay at your post reading Scripture, giving counsel, teaching".

1 Timothy 4:12-13 MSG
